From time to time (I think once a year) Ganz “retires” a couple of Webkinz, which implies they stop making them and produce some new ones in their place.

Kids are not entirely the only people who purchase Webkinz – many grownups are likewise avid collectors of the plush furry pets and some purchase them precisely in the hopes that Ganz will retire them. Why? Once Webkinz retires one of it’s plush pets, it gives the impression of producing a scarceness in the marketplace and of course, the price starts to go up. And go up it will!

Several people are paying upwards of one thousand for some of the more rare Webkinz, such as Webkinz Cheeky Dog, can go for around two hundred to three hundred or more. The same can be said for Webkinz Cheeky Cat! If one goes to eBay they can see the prices on the auctions – it’s really something to see! Check it out.
